Good morning Families of Youth Group,
Here’s a recap of Sunday, March 1’s class –
We welcomed Kerry back to Youth Group after having a beautiful baby girl at the end of last year. We were also joined by two Confirmation 2 students, Alice and Isabella, who helped Julia and Kerry lead the class.
The class focused on Lent and discussed some of the important dates in the Liturgical Calendar, including the start of Lent, Ash Wednesday (February 18th), Palm Sunday (March 29th), and Easter Sunday (April 5th).
We had a great discussion about what it means to give something up to make room for God and how Lent represents a period of prayer, fasting and giving. They also discussed and offered meaningful suggestions on things that we can “take up … give up” for Lent. In addition, Julia gave a demonstration on how to properly make the sign of the cross.
Toward the end of class, the group engaged in making signs and posters for their service project, a Winter Sock Drive. The drive will run through the month of March at both churches. The class decided to donate new, warm winter socks to Homeless Veterans in Boston. The posters and baskets will be placed in front of St. Francis de Sales and St. Mary/St. Catherine’s until the end of the drive, March 31st. Below is a group photo of the newly-made posters annoucing the drive.

Next class for Youth Group is Sunday, April 12th.
